The term “Ayurveda” in Sanskrit means “Knowledge of Life” and it is the individualistic approach to the patient, in order to improve his health, prevent disease or healing. Each therapy is aimed to establish balance in which the spirit, senses, and mind are in a state of bliss. Unlike modern medicine in which doctors are specialized in one discipline, the Ayurvedic doctor is specialized cross disciplines: internal medicine, surgery, pediatrics, psychiatry, ophthalmology, toxicology, gerontology and arresting aging process. Ayurvedic medicines are found everywhere in nature. They can be made of plants (herbs, spices, oils), mineral (metals, precious stones) or animal origin.
Most of us weren’t familiar with the principles of Ayurveda, except the few who explored different nutrition concepts, with the aim to improve their health through lifestyle change. However, in Ayurveda food has a deeper meaning than in most of our cultures. The concept of food does not simply include ingredients that are consumed in our meals, but also all the sensations that we make to ourselves. This way, food affects not only our health but also our character. Quality of our meals depends on the method of preparation, smells sounds of cooking, food quality, people with whom we eat, but also the very personality of the person who prepares the meal.
During the lecture, we were particularly interested in making a diagnosis based on pulse examination. This is the traditional diagnostic approach, which by the words of Dr. Raghavan, gives precise information about someone’s health from before birth to the present day. In this way, one can discover the origin of various diseases, for which modern medicine has no answer. The main focus in Dathathreya Ayurveda Center is on chronic diseases that require long-term treatment and those that other medical systems consider incurable. During the lecture, we had the opportunity to meet the patient, who suffers from multiple sclerosis and for several months now she has been successfully treated by Dr. Raghavan.
Dr. Raghavan Ramankutty is at the same time a doctor of modern medicine and the Ayurvedic physician, practicing Ayurvedic treatments for almost 5 decades. Dathathreya Ayurveda Center offers health promotion and disease prevention, diagnosis and disease treatment.
